Vismara Marine was born in 1984 from the vision of a talented young naval architect, Alessandro Vismara. This vision grew at the end of the 1980’s when Alessandro became one of the principle shareholders of the renowned Marine Services shipyard in Viareggio, the home of custom yacht construction in Europe. Here Alessandro developed the R&D team in advanced composite construction and meets his friends Davide Valesi, Maurizio Fattori and Giancarla Bombieri, who will later become the main pillars of Vismara Marine as head of new yacht construction, head of refitting and head of customer care. Marine Services also joins forces with Baltic Yachts of Finland to become their agent for the Italian market, forging a working relationship that remains to the present day.
Through competing in and winning many hundreds of sailing regattas Vismara Marine developed the brand aim of a shipyard able to develop lightweight and fast sailing yachts, built using the best high tech materials and combining innovative solutions and design. From 1984 through to the first half of the 1990’s Vismara yachts collected countless victories at high-end regattas including Italian Championships and World Championships in 1992 & 1993, the Vismara V40 “Pistrice” winning the IMS Italian Championships in 1993 and the overall victory in the prestigious Champagne Mumm Cup the same year. 1996 then saw the launch of the Vismara & Buzzi designed Open 60 ‘Junplano’, an 18m Ultra Light Displacement yacht with canting keel, carbon wing mast and no standing rigging. Many of these features are now found in the very latest Vendée Globe yachts.
