Aledoa 5 is an extreme, fast, and high-tech boat that expresses all of the experience of baltic yachts when it comes to using materials and technologies commonly found in the aeronautical and space industries to create the most cutting-edge features that boat design has to offer.
The hull and deck are vacuum laminated and post-cured at 80° C; they are made in pre-impregnated carbon sandwich with a core of corecell and nomex, as are the structural bulkheads. The hitech features of “Aledoa 5” are not just the result of the materials used, but also due to the way in which they have been combined with specific design choices. A decisive factor here is the canting keel, which offers greater stability and righting capability, plus the possibility to sail close hauled, with the boat listing very little and therefore, with greater comfort for those on board as well as higher speed. Other design features include the waterline with reduced wetted surface and more efficient sail plan- Balance at the helm and bowline angles have been improved by the presence of a retractable stern fin with hydraulic drive. In order not to compromise the light displacement design philosophy behind “Aledoa 5”, a great deal of care and attention has gone into the other construction elements, such as :wheel, mast and booms in carbon, custom skylights in carbon, while the stanchions, stern and bow pulpits and retractable anchor fitting are in titanium.
However, it would be wrong to call this Superbaltic 78 a “bare regatta machine”. There is an abundance of teak not just on deck, where it has been laid using the vacuum epoxy technique habitually used by the Finnish boatyard for years now, but also on the interiors, with their harmonious, welcoming feel and host of accessories. From bow to stern, the layout is: a crew cabin with independent access, two guest cabins with double bed and own bathroom, dinette with course plotting area and galley. The double master cabin is amidships and enjoys a large bathroom with shower cabin and desk/dressing table. Aft, and accessible from the work cockpit, is the skipper’s cabin, starboard and on the port side, the third guest cabin, each with own bathroom. The deck, with two cockpits, is laid out with aluminium custom winches, the main ones being electrically powered – for the mainsheet and the Genoa halyards. The wheels, like their columns, are in carbon, while most of the fittings are titanium.
