“Alligator” is a custom-build created on the lines of a Bruce Farr hull, aimed at building a fast cruiser with a sporting look but with sophisticated and elegant interiors.
The boat’s characteristics are very close to those of the latest maxi racers: open stern design, two wheels with composite material columns, rig reduced to a minimum, with halyards running below deck in special ducts, medium-light displacement and high stabilising keel. The sail plan has been studied to achieve the best possible performance in middle-light wind conditions and includes a large batten main and a low overlap genoa, which is easily manoeuvred, even with a smaller crew. The mast has angled spreaders without running backstays. The interiors have been set out according to the owner’s needs, with galley and crew quarters clearly separate from the master quarters. The course plotting area has been removed and replaced by a plasma screen computer that stores in the dinette table, complete with fully integrated controls for navigation and using course plotting software and programmes for weather forecasts, facsimile communication and control of on-board systems. The hull and deck are built in Kevlar compound, GRP and epoxy resins, while the interiors have sandwich structural panels with teak veneer.
