The “Mediterranean” version of the Baltic 50 was created on the back of an idea to combine the high performance of an ims hull designed by bill tripp for a race version, with the versatility of the baltic yard when it comes to building custom and semicustom craft.
Concerning these two elements, the firm made significant interventions, with new designs for the deck and interiors, suggesting a mini-series of Baltic 50 that would be closer to the uses and tastes of the Mediterranean. Magica,” “Sherazade” and “Sei tu” are fitted out as fast cruisers: the simplified deck – now more efficient and functional – has been devised for easier manoeuvres with a smaller crew.
The interiors have been changed on the basis of requests from the respective owners. Therefore, we have a 3 cabin version (“Magica”), then “Sherazade,” which is a two-cabin version and the 4 cabin model, “Sei tu,” (without course plotting area, but with a plasma computer screen that folds down into the dinette table). The finishes too have been changed, from traditional teak to trailblazing “Anigre” on the “Sherazade”, with titanium-effect steel for handrails and alcantara or precious fabrics woven from Sardinian cotton on “Magica”. “Gordon’s” and “Melissa” are more reminiscent of the racer-cruiser.
The sail plan, deck and construction are more extreme: double helm in carbon for “Melissa” and vacuum construction using carbon fibres pre-impregnated with epoxy resin for both, with a resulting 10% reduction in displacement compared to other models. The sail plan has a 9/10 semifractional rig, the mast is in carbon with three spreaders and no backstays and as far as the appendages are concerned, a special keel bulb with steel blade and torpedo-shaped bulb has been designed. The rudder and axle are in carbon and epoxy. The intended use is sportier, but this does not take anything away from the high-grade finishes of the interiors, which have been carefully fitted and are also equipped for cruising.
