STIG was designed by Judel/Vrolijk & co to comply with the mini maxi IRC rules. This innovative 72 footer is competing with the fastest mini maxis ever built, taking part in prestigious races around the Mediterranean. The boat has a Prepreg Nomex carbon epoxy sandwich laminate with Kevlar Honeycomb core in both the hull and deck and as is normal for Baltic Yachts the weight of the project is being strictly controlled with both technical calculations and scheduled weight checks. Other special features are the fixed keel with an impressive draft and the retractable propeller system which enables a flush underwater hull while sailing. The interior are a mix of painted and untreated carbon with 12 pipe cots, a galley area and one head. To further save weight there is no interior lighting and the crew will have to use headlights when under deck. Baltic 72 Grand Prix is also equipped with a Hall Spars carbon mast with racing boom and a composite standing rigging. Vismara / Baltic Italia has been responsible for starting up this research project, joining the owner and Baltic Yachts for a common effort in advancing the stage of the art of yacht construction and team work.
